“Our initial brief to Carlton was to build a retaining wall and create a garden within it. We met several times to discuss the design and how he would approach the project. He produced a detailed sketch for us based on our discussions and an idea of the costs involved. The sketch is what sold me – I had to have that garden. Once we delved a little further we discovered due to the height of the retaining wall and the sloping site we had to involve regulatory bodies. The simple plan we had in our heads turned into a more complicated process involving the council, private certifiers and design engineers with plans that needed to be approved. Carlton guided us through each step of the process. The end result is an amazing feat of engineering with a rock retaining wall complete with drainage, soil, mulch and a unique planting design. Throughout the project we changed our minds as to what we wanted and Carlton’s never-ending patience and sensible approach always put us back on track. We were so happy with the results that the project evolved from the retaining wall to various other projects. “We found Carlton Ridd through an advertisement in our local paper in 2011. At the time, we were looking to redesign and plant two small courtyard areas in the front of our home. Carlton impressed us at the time with his enthusiasm, genuine interest and willingness to listen. He completed the projects within budget and on time and even today the areas are still very attractive and easy to manage.
